  • The Principles of Design (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity)

  • Foundational Art Vocabulary and Concepts

Each session begins with a week focused on ceramics, giving students the chance to explore clay and three-dimensional form. The remaining weeks will rotate through a variety of media and techniques, including:

  • Acrylic and watercolor painting

  • Drawing with various materials

  • Collage and mixed media

  • Ceramic sculpture

  • Art using recycled and found objects

In this dynamic studio art class, 2nd and 3rd grade students will dive deeper into the creative process, building on foundational skills while expanding their artistic voice. Each session is designed to spark imagination, develop confidence, and encourage expressive, hands-on exploration.

Young artists will continue to work with the Elements of Art and Principles of Design as they begin to form their own artistic identity. They'll be encouraged to take creative risks, experiment with new techniques, and bring their unique ideas to life through both guided instruction and open-ended projects.

We begin each session with an exciting week of ceramics, introducing students to the tactile world of clay. From there, students will explore a rich variety of media and processes including:

  • Acrylic and watercolor painting

  • Drawing with charcoal, pastels, pens, and pencils

  • Ceramic sculpture and hand-building techniques

  • Collage and printmaking

  • Mixed media creations using both traditional and unexpected materials

Projects incorporating recycled and found objects, emphasizing creativity and sustainability

This studio class is designed for curious and motivated 4th and 5th grade students who are ready to take their creativity to the next level. At this stage, young artists begin to push boundaries, explore personal interests, and approach their art-making with greater independence and intention.

Students will build on foundational skills and deepen their understanding of art concepts while continuing to explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design in more thoughtful and nuanced ways. They'll be challenged to experiment, problem-solve, and make artistic choices that reflect their own developing style.

In this course, students will:

  • Strengthen drawing, painting, and sculpting techniques

  • Explore more complex materials, tools, and mixed media approaches

  • Tackle layered, multi-step projects with intention and creativity

  • Begin to reflect on their work and artistic growth through discussion and critique

Media and processes may include: acrylic and watercolor painting, advanced drawing techniques, ceramics, printmaking, collage, assemblage, and mixed media projects using both traditional and unconventional materials.

This open studio course is designed for middle and high school students who are ready to take creative ownership of their work. With the support of experienced instructors, students will design and develop independent art projects that reflect their interests, ideas, and personal vision.

Whether refining skills in a favorite medium or exploring new techniques, students will be encouraged to challenge themselves, think critically, and express their unique point of view through art, while also reflecting on their artistic process.

In this class, students will:

  • Build on their existing artistic foundation

  • Choose their own materials, subject matter, and direction

  • Receive individualized coaching and technical support

  • Explore and refine their personal artistic style

Develop project-planning, creative problem-solving, and reflective thinking skills
