Beginner Artists
Beginner Artists
This general art studio class is specially designed for Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Through hands-on exploration and creative play, young artists will be introduced to:
The Elements of Art (line, shape, color, texture, value, form, and space)
The Principles of Design (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity)
Foundational Art Vocabulary and Concepts
Each session begins with a week focused on ceramics, giving students the chance to explore clay and three-dimensional form. The remaining weeks will rotate through a variety of media and techniques, including:
Acrylic and watercolor painting
Drawing with various materials
Collage and mixed media
Ceramic sculpture
Art using recycled and found objects
At this developmental stage, children are building fine motor skills, learning to express ideas visually, and exploring materials through experimentation. Artwork from this age group may appear abstract or unfinished to adult eyes—but these pieces reflect important growth in creativity, coordination, and confidence. Parents can expect to see a wide range of results that emphasize the process of making art rather than a polished final product.
